Biotechnology Center of Ho Chi Minh City collaborates on injection vaccination trials for disease prevention in striped catfish

(SHTP) - In early September 2026, Biotechnology Center of Ho Chi Minh City collaborated with Khang Anh Trading and Services Co., Ltd. to perform trials of injectable vaccines in HDPE-lined tanks against bacillary necrosis of pangasius, motile Aeromonas septicemia and columnaris disease. This is one of the first vaccination trials of the Center involving injectable vaccines for striped catfish at hatchery scale.

During the injection vaccination procedure, the Center’s staff trained the Company’s employees techniques on fish anesthesia, the use of vaccination guns, preparation of injectable vaccine solutions and personnel arrangements to ensure a smooth vaccination process and maintain an injection rate of approximately 200,000–250,000 fish per day.

A total of 120,000 fish were vaccinated over a 6-hour working period, with low post-vaccination mortality ranging from 3% to 20%. After vaccination, the striped catfish will continue to be reared at the hatchery for an additional 2–3 weeks before being transferred to commercial grow-out earthen ponds. The protective efficacy of the injectable vaccine will be monitored over the following six months.

This is the first time the Center has collaborated with the Company to conduct trials of injectable vaccines for striped catfish. In the coming period, both the Center and the Company will monitor and discuss the results to optimize the industrial-scale vaccination process for striped catfish using the vaccines developed in Vietnam. In addition to injectable vaccines, the Center is also collaborating with the Company to evaluate the protective efficacy of immersion and oral vaccines, with the aim of setting up alternative vaccination strategies for different developmental stages of striped catfish./.
